DRA&U at the European Heritage Days

DRA&U at the European Heritage Days

DRA&U will take part in a conference dedicated to urban regeneration and historic centres at risk, to be held in Cosenza as part of the European Heritage Days.

Cosenza’s historic centre, with its remarkable architectural, urban and cultural heritage, will provide the starting point for a broader reflection on the vulnerabilities affecting many Italian historic centres: depopulation, loss of functions, deterioration of the built heritage, and the progressive weakening of the social and economic fabric.

DRA&U will contribute to the debate on the role of architecture and urban planning in regeneration processes, promoting an approach capable of integrating heritage protection, architectural quality, sustainability, new functions and the reactivation of urban life.

Cosenza will therefore offer an opportunity to address an increasingly central issue for the future of Italian cities: how to protect a historic heritage of great value without turning it into a static entity, but instead restoring its contemporary capacity to be inhabited, experienced and economically active.

The relationship between memory, identity and transformation will be at the heart of a reflection that concerns not only Cosenza, but the future of Italy’s historic centres as a whole.
