MIRAGE – THE LANDMARK DUBAI BIODIVERSITY CENTRE

The project for the Dubai Mirage Biodiversity Centre represents a journey in the naturalistic universe of our planet. A building which will have the aim to bring a unique sensorial experience, right inside the heart of Dubai, through an educational, playful and cultural path, to discover the nature surrounding us.

Visitors will be able to immerse themselves to hear the stories narrated inside this marvellous nature temple; diving through the depths of an open naturalistic environment, while being able to enjoy dedicated spaces for didactic/labs, exhibitions, play areas, thematic events, restaurants, sky bar and lounge areas. Guided tours will also be held in this space, convening the importance to the visitor of naturalistic beauties, through the wonders of the flora and fauna inside.The realization of thematic areas, able to stimulate where thought, science and teachings mix, creating a strong sense of emotions able to allow the visitor to comprehend the importance of the respect we ought to give to the Natural Environment.

The choice of biomes is characterised by a correlation with the naturalistic context, imposing an accent on marine and terrestrial biodiversity from around the globe. A slice of our naturalistic patrimony is housed in this naturalistic temple designed with steel and transparencies; plants, vegetation, and micro fauna from different parts of the world give the soul to this highly sustainable building, which connects with the elements of nature (sun, wind and soil) to provide an energetically friendly environment.

Dubai Biodiversity Centre has been envisioned as a living organism and this is reflected also in its morphology which is developed in a continuous geometrical surface between exterior and interior, evocating the organic principles of nature. The parametric system of its external skin is the clear representation of the organic principles of the plants and nature.

Within its core, the Mirage conceals fluid spaces and niches with wide varieties of flora and fauna al designed following the Biomimetic principles. Its iconic trademark, bot high-handedly and delicately marks the Dubai Creek waterfront. This building draws an impalpable contour in the Gulf’s skyline, while being caressed by the winds, offering a mutable and mysterious image to itself.
